Our 2025 theme for Juneteenth Overland Park is “Joining Hands Moving Forward.” This is a time when every citizen can help our collective community to positively move forward by linking arms, joining hands and hearts, and extending ourselves through acts of kindness and service to others.
EVENT OBJECTIVES
UNITE
Bring people of many cultures, backgrounds, languages, races, and differences together to celebrate, acknowledge, and honor our humanity.
EDUCATE
Give more people an opportunity to learn about Juneteenth and why it’s important to our collective community.
CELEBRATE
Celebrate our continued growth, resilience, strength, and progress as a diverse community when we move forward together in unity.

June and nineteenth.
Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021.
On June 19, 1865 Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to officially free enslaved people in the state.
Many people, especially Black and/or African-American citizens, celebrate Juneteenth. In 2021, the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act was signed into law, making it a Federal holiday.
Slavery officially ended in the United States on Dec. 6, 1865, when the 13th Amendment was ratified by three-quarters of the then-states — 27 out of 36 — and became a part of the United States Constitution.
aTTRACTIONS
The Juneteenth Overland Park Committee is excited to launch it’s first 5K Walk/Run. Let’s join together, move our bodies, and go for our personal best 5K times!
